[FORM ONE] Writing Literature Essay

Based on the novel Fair’s Fair by Narinder Dhami, write about a theme.
Give evidence to support your answer

THEME is HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY

ELABORATE by defining the word 'honesty'

EVIDENCE
1.    Lee returns the purse he found to the woman.
2.    Lee admits that the ball was flattened by the dog. So he compensates by giving the little girl the money he earned from walking the dog
3.    Lee admits that he does not have any money to go to the fair.

The novel that I chose is Fair’s Fair by Narinder Dhami and the theme that I like is ‘honesty is the best policy’. Honesty means the act of telling the truth. This proverb means that one must always be honest because that is the mark of a good person.

This theme is shown through three incidents. First is when Lee returns the purse he found to the woman who lost it. Lee shows that honesty is the best because he has helped the woman.

The second incident is when Lee admits that the ball was flattened by the  dog. So he compensates by giving the little girl the money he earned from walking the dog. This shows honesty is the best policy because he has helped the little girl to not feel sad about her ball.

To conclude, the theme 'Honesty is the best policy' is shown in three incidents.

Review of Tenses

Remember, most students use PERFECT TENSES FOR EVERYTHING when the simple tenses would suffice and not give headaches to examiners. My two-cents is if you don't know how to use perfect tenses, DON'T. How to know you know to use perfect tenses? Ask your English teacher. If she had marked your essays, she would know.
